last few days abnormally foul mood is clearly attributed to PMT. as also are the pimples.
1. parcel is arriving tomorrow! japanese knitting book! japanese cat knitting book!
2. new WoW character, and i managed to level it up to 10 in One Session. this is not impressive. but is impressive for me. lachlan is, however, a terrible backseat computer-game-player. my inability to know left from right is frustrating for him, as is my lack of hand eye coordination when it comes to computer games. this amuses me.
3. we had an incredible dinner at isis last night, for belated annimaversary. deeeeeeeeeliciously amazingly good, and honestly worth every cent. fine dining is really worth it, as a... once yearly treat.
4. byron is currently in venice, being an amusing prick. the more i read the bio, which is, by the way, easily the best written bio i have ever read- i usually loath bios - the more i feel he really is a nasty piece of work. deeply amusing from a historical distance, but by no means a heroic, adulation figure. there is a curious article on RoN (romanticism on the net, see sidebar linky) dicussing a feminist reading of byron. this link is very very tentative, and their idea of feminism is also ... a strange, essentialist, "feminine energy" wankery type. byron did like some women, but, he was a mysogynist. attempting to say otherwise is pulling at straws. he's hardly espousing a proto-feminist worldview. there was also a really great article on the interaction between the works of byron and the works of shelley which was sharp, cutting towards shelley's work, and, dare i say, somewhat byronic in tone. it made me laugh out loud as i read it.
i find the facination with a self proclaimed womanhater really interesting in me, from a feminist perspective. i loath that aspect of byron; but his misogyny and classism, his very dubious morals in relation to minors (and don't give me that about 'times being different - prepubescent is prepubescent - and although there is no proof he ever did have sex with a child, there are some indications it was on his list of things to do... ) does the angel, the shelleyan, ideal byron, the byron of wit and pathos and bathos with a sensitive, gentle touch at what it is to be human, outweigh the reality?
5, currently watching 7 ebay auctions. don't intend to spend anything. just watching. this is making up for having to miss the lifeline bookfest due to lack of funds. speaking of which, i need to find some Imaginary Money to go to doctors with for medication, and mole check. life is too romantic sometimes.
6. shawl will continue on much better when one is away from lachlans WoW account and the capacity for me to spend too long pretending to be a Magical Warlock Princess of Doom with Pet Monster.
7. should be hearing back RE uni soon. librarian me, here i come.... look out library world. well. sort of. oh, and look out for lachlan too.yes... though he is waiting a little longer, probably starting midyear, or next year.... librarian us!

Hormones suck. Nothing like hormones to ruin one's mood completely.
Japanese cat knitting book sounds absolutely fantastic. I love kitties! They are cute and cuddly, unlike Byron. Just because someone is an artist doesn't mean he's a nice person. I read Dali's autobiography (even though I don't usually read biographies), and the guy is throw-yourself-down-the-stairs-to-get-attention kind of nuts. Not good. Not fun to be around. I think he also kicked his baby sister in the head to show how much he loved her!
Misogyny is such a weird phenomenon. I can't blame you for being intrigued, it's always interesting to see how somebody ended up that way. Same for racism and other prejudices, really. Some of them may be commonly held cultural stereotypes, but individual people get that way because of something in them that makes the prejudice stick.
Glad you're feeling better, and you'll do this library thing. One day, we feminist knitting goth librarians will take over the world!
