poink! poink! sing!

singing along, singing along, i feel gloriously merry tonight.

just had the divine ms N over for dinner, we ate the Typical Elizabeth Feast - pasta. cheese. garlic. chilli. oil. it's amazingly delicious. n. and i would both live off it if we had our way.

am tentatively starting photo a day up again. and, i like to let my readers have pictures... all words, no pictures, i don't want to bore you, my loves.
what i guess is now medically classified as Mania is glorious. i love these phases. they happen after storms, the light comes out, and i am so refreshed, so glistening after the darkness, that the sun is the most incredible sight. my eyes swell and i breathe it in, and i hold it tightly closer inside, oh god, yes, that air, so delicious slowly flowing out that oxygen. i feel music differently, i smell the air and it's completely new. the colours, oh GOD colours are just a never ending source of delight.

and movement. and moments. and places. i don't care what this is, because i feel so human, and so happy. i think it comes from the contrast of misery. but at the same time, i can identify other things. the still no food. the no sleep. the energy. the glee. the playfulness. i feel bouncing and spirited and alive. alive again, more to the point, like i have woken up, and there is life and love again.

the leaves are turning, the leaves are turning! the colours blush around me, they flood my retina. bunny runs laps around the apartment, his glee coming out in the way he flies, flies flies.
and i don't need anyone or anything to feel like this. i feel alive. i feel so fucking alive. i feel freed from that taunting ear worm now, it twittered a little at me today, but then, things were clear. so clear, and i am free again, and i am an all powerful amazon warrior and i am strong. as. fuck. mister.

knitting. knitting.

tired and angsty

the angst is simply a result of being so exhausted i fee like i could sleep for the rest of my life. this makes me vulnerable to the voices in my head.

the pathetic lame thing is that i do have voices in my head. i intellectually know they are me, and i know how to deal with it, don't worry. but the more exhausted i get, the more the voice, that feels disembodied and seperate from my mis-labelled 'thing' i call soul, likes to just holler abuse. it's usually along the lines of 'you are pathetic. pathetic. nothing. fuck, just fucking shut up. you are utterly useless.' i've learned after shitloads of therapy not to get into a mental debate with the voice, but to just let it rant, and watch it and not take it on board. accept that this is how i feel about myself. don't argue with it, because that gives me the idea that it's something external to me, and thus starting a fun fun path to disasociative identity disorder. i just need to not get into fights, let the part of me that's angry have a cry, listen to it, and then gently say it's wrong, and that i'm fucking great.

i get really, really fucking sick of having to have this talk with myself. honestly, yeah, it's no big deal, i can manage the voices in my head fine most of the time. but when i'm tired and sick and homesick, it's that much harder.
too sleepy to write more.

the mountain goats....glee-gleeeee

here's some true to life moments with elizabeth. that's what i look like in front of the computer in the evening, staring at the screen wide eyed buzzing whiteness into my retinas.
list time.

1. just impulsively bought tickets to see the mountain goats in brisbane in december, and plane tickets. i don't have to pay for somewhere to stay, and *smiles sweetly* might be able to get airport transport sat night. it's pretty much just to see them - i'm in melbourne when they play sydney, and back in canberra when they play melbourne. argh. it's messy. but! mounty-goats!

2. falling in love is more fun/mad/insane/normal when you do it in the wrong places.

3. OPAC's and databases are amazing. seriously. being a librarian before them would have been hideously harder. i've spent the last few days digging through every issue of australian rolling stone from 1989 to present, trying to see if there was one with Nick Cave on the cover. strangely enough, there was not. but this just made me overwhelmed with gratitude for the Internet, which makes finding information so much easier. god, i love the internet.

4. i don't do the 'librarian' blog thing well. mainly because i am a selfish little selfinterested cunt, that tends to think my internal rants are more worthy of being written and thought out than my musings on my profession. and also, i tend to like to leave work at work, and spend my spare time being self indulgent. such is the luxury of youth. speaking of which, i got Carded last night!! *grins* awwwwww. he thought i could be under 18! how kind.

5. i become more entranced with orange juice the more i listen to them. other bands i adore, like 'ambitious lovers' have a similar shambolic charm to them. but god, orange juice do it with such balance, such... panache.

6. being tired all the time sucks. the doctor called me today, well, receptionist, saying the doctor wanted to see me very soon. this means something Nasty showed up on the bloodtest. so, lets take a bet. -more severe glandular fever? - -b12 fucked up?- -hormone levels in hell?- take a pick... pick a card.... any card...

mmmmsleepytime now.

bouncing around to orange juice

not me, bunny. the second i started playing orange juice, he started running around in mad circles, doing the amazing little flying bounce in the air thing that he does. it's amazingly cute. i tend to feel bad that i let little bunny run around more than the Big One, but i'll offer an Out Of Cage Time for big bunny, and he shows no interest.

today, i had to go to the doctor, to get new scripts, check blood test results (no, i don't have HIV, Heb b or c, an iron problem....etc, etc... but i do have glandular fever. oh Joy.). while i was there, the doctor did the 'concerned doctor face'... looking at my acne, oh so sadly... 'oh, god, that's looking terrible at the moment.'

you know what? who fucking cares. it's my skin. it doesn't hurt. it's not burning. i don't care if there are small scars. it won't kill me, or, god, even hurt me. however, having it pointed out just makes me feel shit. and irritated. and very very dubious about doctors intentions. i clearly don't mind a great deal. but hell, you'll sell more medication if i need four topical applications, and a drug that might make me infertile, so that a couple of small lesions on my face, that no one other than me notices. better still was a leaflet i saw in the doctors office, explaining that the frustrating, socially crippling 'illness' of acne is TREATABLE!!! and CURABLE!

yeah. irritated.

in better news, ... um... i saw the PM today. he had hair. that's about all the observations i care for. and leonard cohen touring. that's ace.

walking

i ate a lot of garlic yesterday and today, and my sweat smells like garlic. it's not an offensive smell to me, but i'm fairly sure it's more offensive to others. god, i love garlic.

list time:
1. walking to work and home from work was great. i did mentally gripe, and verbally gripe, but it's actually a good thing. i liked doing it. i'm going to keep doing it. i feel better for it; more awake, more alert.

2. however, i feel profoundly grumpy. i think this might be due to cutting down the refined sugar in my diet, through aiming to eat better. it makes me feel very, very cranky pants.

3. little bunny chewed through my ipod cord. bad bunny. Bad. awww but his little face is so cute, gawd i love him.

4. speaking of, my own issues are frustrating me. yes. i don't care, that's how i feel, i'm not apologising for it. i wish i wasn't so terrified of emotional intimacy. that level of human-ness scares me deeply. i can fuck any stranger, but if someone wants deeper, god, i get like a shy little bunny and scuttle around head into holes. i am no longer an All Powerful Amazon Warrior. i get scared. i need to re-settle into a headspace. but a lot of things that were really, really worrying me - mainly the feelings of a third party in a situation in am in, have been clarified, and i feel so much better, so much less mean, nasty, stealer, than i did. it's all good in that respect. now the only thing i need to work my way through is my self. oh goody. you know what that means? Navel Gazing! with the fishy. he will help me. with his fishy, fishy goodness. mmmmfishy.

5. snortle snortle goes little bunny. snortle. he keeps chewing on my copy of 'intercourse' which is amusing. is he bitter about the depiction of intercourse in novels as well? or just bitter because he has no testicles? or does he just like the texture of the paper? i guess i'll never know. he also pissed all over my study guide for uni, which made me giggle, and give him a cuddle. we feel the same, there, little dude. totally the same.

6. sigh, i feel homesick at the moment for brisbane, something chronic. i can't go home til jan. it's almost november though. only two months. i can make it.

la la

these are getting less and less flattering.

i've been feeling progressively denser in the last few weeks, and today, i worked out why! i am a lazy, lazy shit. you see, dear audience, i used to walk 45 minutes to work every day. it would take that long if i was walking slow, but it was, in all honestly, about a 30 minute walk. today, i walked home from work. and realised, that at a slow, unfit pace, it took about 25 minutes.
i will save about $30 a week if i stop catching the bus, and start getting off my not fat, but unhealthy arse, and walk to work, and home from work. i mean, i'm not even out of breath by it. not even tightened slightly. and i feel more human than i have in ages. go team me!

i even got home, cooked dinner, did washing up, and now feel awake enough to blog and watch tiny-bunny being cute. he's flopping his little ears from side to side. sneezing a bit, which worries me still though.

walking is wonderful. i talked to all sorts of hungry ghosts. wrote a venting letter to my first boyfriend's ex wife apologising for being the other woman (despite the fact he told me they weren't together, i still feel strange about it all years on.) i vented to myself, i thought, i moved my feet one after another i mused and i ... felt more human again. so, walking yay.

tags

currently tagging old entries for the fun of it. see. i know how to party, mo fos.

it's early afternoon and i haven't eaten yet. this state of affair is more than slightly sad.

i am reading lolita at the moment, enjoying the lushness of the language, find the main character less repulsive than i do nabakov for the depiction of the child, still a problematic thing, because i remember being a 12 year old girl, and 12 year old girls are sexual creatures. they want to fuck. still, i am thinking the novel is more a stylistic exercise than an exploration of paedophilia, i don't know, i need to read more background i guess. the language is, however, undeniably beautiful, though i am finding it slightly purple at the time, and am given to skipping the endless description. so sue me.

nature is a bit shit

i climbed a mountain this morning. admittedly, it was not a very big mountain. probably actually a very small mountain by mountain standards. it's been an hour or so since getting off the mountain, and my breathing is almost back to normal. this is indicative of my state of fitness. i am a lazy little shit.

i don't understand the idea of the spiritual connectivity of nature. exercise, yes, because you become intimately aware of your body. but the outside, the roughness, the rocks and the stumbling and the trees and the void, it is divorced from my tedious, urbane existence. god, i've never even been camping. the 'outside natural world' does not make me feel more human, or less human, or different at all. i like looking at trees, and i like finding animals, and i don't like getting covered in dirt. i feel relatively satisfied by how exhausted and slightly ill i feel, as it means i actually exerted myself for once. but i don't feel like the experience of walking up a hill has made me more human in the way that talking to a stranger does, or... many other experiences do... reading a amazing book... meeting someone you admire... connectivity.... good food... good sex... eye contact... all of these touch me more deeply than trees and red dirt and rocks.

Dinosaurs with Feathers

i bought a book on them. Fuck Yes. i have been very inspired by them lately.

i love them a lot. they are dinosaurs! and birds! between. i like spaces between, that's part of the wonderous nature of evolution.

mmm. now i am tired and full. i am pondering writing poems about my teen lesbian novels. i will start with earlier ones.

here is one on 'Annie on my mind' by nancy garden.

ANNIE and LIZA - by Elizabeth.

Annie, sweet artistic soul;
you may be working class, quiet one,
upper New York
trouble, torn between
feminism and your own desires.

but Liza loves you.
and there are few things sweeter than
when your first lover touches you
and you know, oh yes,
something so much more profound about
that space inside
your
soul.

together, annie, liza, you look
at unicorns
that almighty feminine and
you ride across the city
over each other's bodies,
towards a future without
homophobia.

the end.

forgetting

damn it. i was meant to pay some money off my credit card today. i'm an idiot. actually, i have a few hours left. i can fit it in.

saw movie. enjoyed it. cinematic experience indeed. i took my shoes off, even if they did stink, but i like the socks i wore, i'm sort of hungry but lazy in bed, ready for sleep, i wish i could stay awake late and ponder the world and myself and my world, and my uni work, and not just spend half my life asleep. it is less fun.

tired

stomach cramps. i think this is because i am eating slightly better. this is why eating better is a mixed blessing.

i was going to write about a girl i knew once, but now i am tired, and she'd updated her facebook status, and it seemed a little close to home. or too far away from home. or something, ah distance, yes, we are often in the wrong place right place wrong time wrong space, it's all so arbitrary, this stupid situational timing and placement.
the cathartic act of writing is becoming habit again. this does, admittedly, make for a blog of repetition, but it's a nice way of bleeding without blood.

female writers

i rarely smile in the self portraits i take, i've noticed. let's try and change this.
this is also an excellent way to make me write at least a line or so every day. i wonder why i don't smile. i smile a lot in real life. i guess, i look at the image on the screen, and i dislike how the smile mutates my skin and folds it around my mouth, my nose, and i feel self conscious about it. which is a little silly, because i try not to follow the beauty myth. i am also feeling more and more self conscious about my eyebrows. i've plucked them since i was 12, or so, when my best friend told me i had a monobrow. every so often, even now, a well meaning friend offers to do it, or instructs me on how much nicer my face would look with two slightly more distinct eyebrows, rather than a line of finer hair linking between them, and finer hair below them. the shape of them is still distinct, it's just not defined and preened. it's taken me 14 years to stop the habit of keeping them in the kind, socially confined ideas of how female eyebrows should look, and each time i study one of these pictures, i just want to take to them and make myself look 'better', before i slow down, and remember that this is just our socially conditioned notion of how i, as a woman, am supposed to look. i've come to think of my leg hair as attractive, and i love it, i love the way it feels, and how the air feels against it. i will not remove pubic hair. it's simple. underarm hair was my second most recent concession, but probably the easiest, because i think it's sexy as all hell on women. the warmth of it, the way sweat clings to it, the scent, i find lovely.

now it's just the damn eyebrows. i look at them merging between my eyes, and i want to think of it as poetic. i want to focus on the way the hair feels when i touch it, and how different it feels to how it has for the last 14 years. i remind myself that there is no substantial reason that it is less attractive than were i spending an arduous amount of time in front of a mirror, carefully removing each hair to submit my face to a more typical version of attractiveness. and, in the end, i don't tackle it, i leave them messy and merged, but still, i feel that little bit uglier still. i'm looking forward to celebrating them more, the acceptance of, no matter how small, i can play out the politics of identity, and consumption, and gender, with my own body.

while cooking dinner (a delightful pasta 'thing' my New Friend Fiona I Met Off Facebook told me how to make) i pondered something i often do. gender in writing. and how much it shits me when i realise male friends who consider themselves well read have read such a small number of women writers without realising this. i had one debate with a drunk kid (ok, i too was extremely intoxicated, and belligerent, as i tend to get when drunk and debating with people who assume i am stupid) who listed all these male philosophers, but could not name a SINGLE significant female one. i think i was using that as a proof of either his ignorance of feminism, or philosophy, or ... something, i dunno. but it's surprising how common it is - men who read, but only really read male writers. i know teen boys are like this, largely, from when i was working in abookstore - to generalise, they are more comfortable reading about boys, while girls will read about people regardless of gender. perhaps this is why girls tend to be better socialised, their lack of fear of gender transgression?

to be slightly simplistic it comes back to the fact, simple, that i can wear pants, and it's not transgressive. men, however, wearing skirts to work, with a gender identity of male, would have a larger problem. for me to be 'transgressive' through not wearing make-up, or plucking my eyebrows is a far less transgressive act than for a man to wear make-up and tidily, openly, pluck his eyebrows. does this make men freed from these stupid, idiotic beauty rituals that push women into time wasting, consumer, object based activities for hours, or simply deprived of choice? however, as i've mentioned in a blog-entry-long-ago, i don't think that feminism is about choice. that to me is bullshit. and i've explained why before.

Saturday, October 18, 2008

i'm starting to readin dworkin's 'intercourse' - this book has particular interest to me for a lot of different reasons. one of which is the fact that i am, to a degree, a masochist, and a sub. and she critiques this solidly, and it makes me question my own desires in a really interesting, focused way. is this a way for me to avoid intimacy, to distance myself from a lover through pain and power play, detaching my own humanity from theirs in a desire to remain as seperate as possible in such intimacy? i tend to think that might have a lot to do with it. and insecurity maybe. it's making me question my own desires to the point of realizing that the desire only seperates me further from the act, and makes me more alone.
this doesn't make clear sense yet. will articulate more after dworkin.

vanitas

i am a compulsive photographer of myself with my webcam. i take them often. i like to document what i look like, and well, i have no articulate reason for doing this. so, as is only sensible, i'm going to call it conceptual art, and make myself take one photo of myself every day for a year.

i finished 'stone gods' by jeanette winterson today, sitting in civic under a tree after work. it's one of my favourite things, i've done it since i moved here; sitting under trees in civic, reading books.
it was an amazing novel.
